• Vital Stimulation Therapy - This is a new, FDA approved modality for the treatment of dysphagia/swallowing problems. This modality provides external neuromuscular electrical stimulation to the neck area, in conjunction with functional swallowing exercises provided by the Speech/Language Pathologist, to re-educate and strengthen weakened swallowing muscles.  While traditional dysphagia/swallowing therapy compensates for lost functions, Vital Stimulation Therapy can actually improve function.Vital Stimulation can only be administered by a Speech/Language Pathologist that has been certified in Vital Stimulation.

Types of clients who may benefit from Vital Stimulation Therapy:

• Most clients with a diagnosis of pharyngeal swallowing problems, ranging from mild to profound, may benefit from Vital Stimulation Therapy. This form of therapy has been used with success in both cases of acute and chronic swallowing problems. In some cases, a functional swallow can be restored after years of no oral intake.

Our Speech/Language Pathologists are Master’s prepared graduates of an accredited Speech/Language Pathology program.They have completed one year of supervised clinical practice to achieve a Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech/Language Pathology and are licensed in the State of Pennsylvania once boards are passed.

Speech/Language Pathologists are required to continue their professional education by attending special workshops and programs. Speech/Language Pathologists must acquire these credits to maintain licensure.
